Lotus Candy Tutorial

Finally I manage to buy some candy at last night pasar malam to make a tutorial on the candy lotus. Here is my outcome I make. I learn from a self-called "Guang Yin Niang Niang" at TS hometown. See my post intro of lotus candy here.

Candy that I brought at Pasar Malam, 50 for RM3. I brought the cola Candy as it is red, and usually lotus is in red color. I do not want to eat so much cola candy, so additional I brought Lemon Iced Tea Candy for myself. I like this alot. Thought of doing a Lemon Tea Lotus Candy, but ended up too lazy to do.

We need to create the lotus petal. 1st fold the candy into 2 small triangular, use some transparent tape to stick them up. Don't worry how ugly is the tape on the candy, people won't see it from far as it's transparent tape. Make sure all the candy is fold the same place, to make sure its it consistant.

Here we start to make the lotus candy:

Take 5 candy and stick them together as per picture above. Let the candy stand when 5 of them is stick together. Tip: stick each candy to form a circle. This the 2nd level of the lotus petal .

Now the 3rd layer of the lotus petal . Start by sticking the candy on the between of 2 candy at the 2nd petal . Continue to stick until it form a circle as per picture above.

Now the 4th layer petal . Actually, if you feel difficult to stick the candy, you can stick the candy like a semi circle 1st the table 1st, later, try sticking them on the 3rd layer petal to form the outer petal of the lotus. Continue to add stick tape if you feel that it is not strong enough to hold each layer petal.

Finally, take 3 candy to make the 1st layer of petal. Stick them 3 in a row and each openning to the end to form a triangular shape. Put it on the middle of hole of the flower lotus. And it will end up like this.

New Zealand Ice Cream

Ghost Month

Chinese 7th month of the lunar calender represent the ghost month. Normally chinese people will have prayers at 1st, 15th, 30th of the month to those ghost. My mum doesn't follow all these rules and regulation of the chinese. Not even pray for the 9th day of the chinese new year. Usually they will have shows to entertain. My friend house, every year also sure have this kind of shows, even my house at Penang too.

This year, I was at TS house, manage to see how they pray. Before they pray, they cooked, buy alot of foods, eg: sugar cane, fruits, whole mountain of snacks, mee, rice, duck (at the picure above, 1st time I see whole duck at the cooking pot), chinese buns.... etc. Alot. Then we need to help on folding some paper gold to be burn to them. Also 1st time folding, seeing TS so easy and fast to fold on the gold paper. He have been folding a long time seens he wad a child.

I didn't take a photo during the prayer, because they say, you might snap some thing that you might not want to see... But here I can only describe it.

They pray at 12 noon on the 15th of the month. All the food is put up on the table and it have a small flag on top on each food. TS say last time he tend to take those flag and play after the prayer. Then they have the pray. After that at night, we can see alot of candles and "xiang" at the floor. I never ask why they need to do like that.

Good experience. Almost all people there will pray. Grand pray. As if its chinese new year

Java Chip Frappuccino® blended beverage (Blended Coffee)

Drinks from Starbuck Coffee again. Boss belanja, because next week, LOFSA is coming to our office for an audit. And there are several annoucement to be made. I ordered Latte, but ended up no latte. End up having Java Chip Frappuccino® blended beverage (Blended Coffee) - Starbucks coffee and chocolatey coffee biscuits blended together and topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Altough they have chocolate chips on it, I thought it was coffee chips. But the chocolate was too thick, I guess. Like drinking a cup of full creamy chocolate drink. Not going to order it next time.

Penang Cha Koay Teow

Penang Cha Koay Teow is the best!

I'm now living at KL, from the day I start live at KL, I don't eat any Cha Koay Teow in KL. Doesn't suits my taste. Even though TS sister say their place have nice Cha Koay Teow, but the taste is not the same as per Penang style.

Usually Penang Cha Koay Teow have Dried Pork Meat(Lap Cheong), Green Vegetable(Ku Cai) but in KL mainly don't have these 2. I like my Cha Koay Teow to be cook until its abit redish, orangish looks, but here in KL or Johor, the Cha Koay Teow is browish in color.

Anyone know where I can get this kind of Cha Koay Teow in KL??

Lemon Grass Tea

After one purchase on Lemon grass drink at Isetan KLCC, I start to find some interest on this.

DEFINATION
Lemon grass (scientific name: Cymbopogon ciatrus) is one of those wondrous herbs that one can always associate with Asian cooking Thai, Malaysian and Vietnamese. Always found at Thai Tom Yam, because I love Tom Yam alot.

What I found is it really reduce my stomach gas alot. And its a cheap drink. Just buy the lemon grass from the market and boil it with hot water. And you can have several bottles of lemon grass drink. I didn't put any sugar but its still taste good.

HEALTH BENEFITS

Ice blended Bango

Ice Blended Bango = Mango + Banana + Vanila ice-cream
This is the most recommended drink at this Thai shop at Jalan Genting Klang, in front of Sri Pelangi Condo.

The Thai shop below serves food and drinks. The food I think its just so so, seens they change the new cook, the quality drop. The Tom yam is super spicy. But the drinks still maintain its quality(Drink very easy to make only mar). The drinks are using the whole fruit + ice and blended it. So its like sticky stick cup of drink. Not like others, they just put artificial juice + ice and blend.

Dad on marrathon

I hate to run 1600KM during high school. I will run 1 round, walk for the rest 3 rounds. Haha.

But my 55 year old dad is training hie self in the marrathon now. And planning to go for another marrathon race at Singapore end of this year. Gambate Dad!

My dad loves sport. From young until now, every friday, he would go for his badminton seassion. Almost every day his jogging and walk with the 2 poodles. He like to stay fit and very cautions with his food and exercise. He is the one that told us not to eat doctors antibotik, but never explain why. Until I start attending nutrition talks at KL, I just notice what he tell is true.

I should go for some exercise too.

Well, I found this interesting. My dad told us that my brother and his girl friends gave him a Nike shoe + ipod which can calcualte how long you can run... etc. Some more you can keep your running record online and they will do analysis on it. You could also set your goal. Plus the website is in interactive flash file. Which I think is totally allsome.

My dad longest record for now is 45km. Oh my GOD. Thats FAR. Drive also need more then 1 hour. Imagine running ~~~!!!!

My company designer highly recommend this site. He say this site is a place where he gather his inspirations.

The FWA is a great flash site that gathers all the cool, creative, nice flash website on the WWW. You can either submit your flash website on it or they will search for you. They have the website for the month and website for the day. Cool

I love the wallpaper section the most. Cool , creative on of a kind wallpaper. Very impressive. Now 3 of us (designer, me, programmer) have the FWA wallpaper on our desktop.

World Vision Sponsor a Child

End of last year, I have sponsor a Mongolia child from World Vision at my wretch blog. That time is just out of curious and fun to sponsor that child. Now I have a camera phone and her is how she look likes:

We recieve a background profile from them, some brochures, booklets, calenders.

Slowly the heat when off and I gratuately forgotten her until I recieve her annual report [I forgotten to snap a photo of it :p]. Then I decided to write to her.

TS girl I also need to write to her. So I need to prepare things in 2. I wrote my girl a letter few months back, but haven't posted it yet. So I just grab that letter and write another letter in Chinese to TS kid in China. I prepare the photos that I have printed and stick them on harded card boards. I find some small cute colorful hair pins and self make some pearls bracelet for them. Lastly wrote the address and put everything on the envelop. Hope they love the small gifts I gave them.

When to the post office today for posting. Postage is RM1.30 per letter. Don't know when it will arrive at my kids hand. I guess 2-3 weeks to the World Vision head office, then mine somemore need to translate to Mongolia language. And then need 3-4 weeks to sent to the actual location. The earlist I think will be 2-3 months.
Hope my letter won't get lost.

Malaysian Food Festival 2007 @ KLCC

I manage to visit the Spice Route at KLCC as everyday I need to pass thru there.

It seems like they are promoting those restaurant are KLCC, like Nandos, San Franshico Steak House... etc.

First, I saw the muffin and cookies section, too bad not for testing. But it looks very good so I snap so pictures of it. It is as nice as the cupcakes blog.



Nando's go free testing on their peri peri chili sause with chips and buns. Their chili sauce taste hot, but nice. Here are some hot girls with chili and lemon herbs outfit. Cute~


I manage to squeeze in to get some free food for tasting. Roasted pork, vietnam spring rolls, fruit salads, chips. The fruit salads taste the best, as I love salads. The Vietnam spring roll taste the worst as they put some vegetable with strong smell such as raw mint leafs. Yuck

Food crafts, birds on the bush of green grass I guess. The bird crafts are so detail and nice.
